Mr. Mbwana Mohamed Kasim is a Biochemist and Health Laboratory Scientist at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). He has experience in molecular diagnostics, genomics, cancer genetics, HLA typing, DNA analysis, genetic counselling, laboratory quality management, and biomedical research. He holds a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences (MUHAS, 2014) and a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (MUHAS, 2021). He is currently pursuing an MSc in Biochemistry at MUHAS, with research focused on metagenomic profiling of antibiotic resistance genes in the gut microbiota of urban and rural populations in Tanzania. His broader academic interests include antimicrobial resistance, genomics, molecular biology, nutritional biochemistry, bioinformatics, precision medicine, and implementation science.

My research interests are centered on molecular biology, genomics, nutritional biochemistry, and biomedical data science. I have particular interests in antimicrobial resistance, gut microbiome and metagenomics, cancer genetics, molecular diagnostics, HLA/genomic medicine, precision medicine, and implementation science. My research activities involve the application of molecular and bioinformatic approaches to understand disease mechanisms, microbial ecology, host–microbe interactions, and factors influencing health outcomes. I am also interested in translating genomic and laboratory research into clinically and public-health-relevant applications, including improved diagnostics, disease prevention, and evidence-based interventions.
