Abdilahi Hosea Kiula is a biochemist and Assistant Lecturer at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), where he teaches Biochemistry, Advanced Molecular Biology, and Medical Genetics. His work bridges rigorous experimental science and computational biology in health-focused research, with a particular commitment to building research capacity in resource-limited settings.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and a Master of Science in Biochemistry, both from the University of Dar es Salaam. He is currently a PhD candidate in Chemical Sciences at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, where he conducts his doctoral research in the group of Prof. Amnon Bar-Shir ( https://www.weizmann.ac.il/MCMS/barshir/group ).

His primary research centers on in vivo fluorine metabolic imaging (FMI), a molecular imaging approach he applies to the study of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Through FMI, his work seeks to illuminate disease processes at the metabolic level and advance non-invasive diagnostic strategies by developing fluorinated molecular probes. Alongside this, he maintains a strong interest in next-generation sequencing and its application in low- and resource-limited settings, aiming to make advanced omics tools more accessible where they are needed most

Research Interests

In vivo fluorine metabolic imaging (FMI): developing fluorinated molecular probes to visualize metabolic processes and advance non-invasive diagnostics for cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.

Molecular imaging and probe development: designing sugar-analogue probes engineered for detection by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to reveal disease mechanisms at the metabolic level.

Long-read sequencing (Oxford Nanopore): designing studies, building sequencing workflows, and performing bioinformatics analysis, with a focus on expanding next-generation sequencing access in resource-limited settings.

Genomics and genetic testing: clinical genomics of cancer biomarkers and pharmacogenomic responses.
