MUHAS HOLDS FIRST HEET PROJECT MANAGEMENT MEETING TO OVERSEE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE CONSTRUCTION

 

On January 29, 2025, MUHAS conducted the first HEET Project Management Meeting to oversee the construction of academic and support facilities for the College of Medicine at the Mloganzila Campus. The meeting was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Appolinary Kamuhabwa and brought together members of the HEET Project Implementation Unit (PIU), the consultant, and contractors involved in the project.

During the meeting, the contractor for Lot 1, M/S Mohammed Builders Ltd, responsible for construction of the Administration Building for the College of Medicine, a Library, IT facilities, and campus infrastructure, including a football field and roads; and the contractor for Lot 2, M/S Hainan International Ltd, handling the construction of lecture halls, laboratories, anatomy building, student  hostels,  and  cafeteria; presented progress reports on their respective works.

Additionally, the project consultant for design and supervision, Arqes Africa Limited provided an assessment of the  contractors’  compliance  with construction standards and identified areas requiring attention.

In this meeting, Prof. Kamuhabwa highlighted the importance of adhering to the timeline, compliance to World Bank procedures and applicable laws and regulations. He emphasized that MUHAS expects high-quality work. Prof. Kamuhabwa added that MUHAS expect to lay a foundation stone for the construction of the College of Medicine at the end of February 2025.

Contractors commended MUHAS management for initiating project management meetings at this early stage of construction. They noted that such engagements would help promptly address challenges, ensuring smooth implementation of the project. Furthermore, they commended the MUHAS management for timely addressing issues, including timely payments.
