MUHAS HEET TEAM MEETS UBUNGO DISTRICT COMMISSIONER AHEAD OF FOUNDATION STONE CEREMONY

On February 21, 2025, the Deputy Coordinator of the MUHAS HEET Project, accompanied by        members of the Project Implementation Unit, paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Ubungo District Commissioner, Hon. Lazaro Twange. The purpose of the visit was to brief him on the ongoing construction of the College of Medicine at the Mloganzila Campus, which is being developed under the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project.

The visit also aimed to inform the DC about a free medical camp that will be held at the Mloganzila Campus as part of the activities leading up to the laying of the foundation stone at the construction site. The camp is expected to provide essential health screenings services to the local community and raise awareness of MUHAS’s role in improving public health.

The team also used the opportunity to formally invite Hon. Twange to the upcoming foundation stone-laying ceremony followed by a special commemoration of the late Dr. Ali Hassan Mwinyi, the first Chancellor of MUHAS and the second President of Tanzania, to be held at the East Africa  Centre  of  Excellence  for Cardiovascular Sciences, MUHAS Mloganzila Campus.

During the meeting, the Deputy Coordinator expressed deep appreciation for the ongoing support MUHAS has received from the Ubungo Municipal Council, noting the productive engagements held with technical teams and representatives from various institutions like TARURA, TANESCO, DAWASA etc.

These collaborations, he said, have played a key role in advancing the project’s implementation. Hon. Twange welcomed the MUHAS team and thanked them for the visit. He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to supporting the project and confirmed attendance at the upcoming events. “If there is anything else you would like us to do, please let us know — we are ready,” he said.
