MUHAS HEET PROJECT ESIA TEAM ENGAGES KWEMBE WARD LEADERS AHEAD OF FREE HEALTH CAMP

On  February  22,  2025,  The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) team under the MUHAS HEET project convened a strategic meeting with Kwembe Ward leaders at Mloganzila to discuss the upcoming free health screening camp.

The meeting brought together members of the ward’s development committee, local government officials, neighborhood leaders, ward council representatives, the Ward Council Chairperson,  and  the  CCM  party leadership. The primary goal was to inform and engage local leaders in mobilizing community participation for the upcoming two-day health camp, aimed at delivering essential health services free of charge.

Prof. Emmy Metta, who oversees the Social Welfare component of the HEET project, explained that a team of health professionals from the university is ready to offer a wide range of preliminary screening and health education services. These include eye and oral health, breast and cervical cancer screening, hepatitis, prostate cancer, antibiotic resistance, nutrition, and other non-communicable diseases.

“We are sharing this information with you so that you can pass it along to the citizens and encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Prof. Metta. “All services will be offered free of charge over the two- day period.”

Kwembe Ward Councilor, Hon. Prof. Nicholaus Lumbugo, expressed his appreciation to the MUHAS team for their proactive engagement with local leaders. He applauded the initiative and  emphasized  the  responsibility of ward leaders to ensure maximum community participation.

In addition to the health camp briefing, the MUHAS team provided updates on the ongoing construction of new buildings at the Mloganzila campus. Ward leaders were given a platform to ask questions and offer feedback, with some suggesting that the health camp be made a recurring initiative to continue benefiting the community.
