The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) has expressed sincere appreciation to the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) for their longstanding support in advancing health training, research, and services at the university.
During a farewell meeting with the Coordinator of TIKA Dar es Salaam at the end of her tenure, the Dean of the School of Dentistry at MUHAS specifically acknowledged TIKA’s collaboration in providing the CBCT X-ray machine, a state-of-the-art diagnostic tool. “This equipment has greatly enhanced the quality of training, care, and treatment in our School of Dentistry. It enables our students and staff to deliver advanced clinical dentistry services and ensures that Tanzanian citizens receive the best possible care,” he said.
Similarly, the Head of the Emergency Medicine Department at MUHAS, Dr. Said Kilindimo, expressed gratitude for TIKA’s donation of modern ambulance, emphasizing their crucial role in strengthening Tanzania’s emergency medical services, disaster preparedness, and practical training for healthcare professionals. “The ambulance has been vital in saving lives and equipping our staff with real-world experience in handling emergencies,” he added.
The Vice Chancellor of MUHAS, Prof. Appolinary Kamuhabwa, also extended heartfelt thanks to TIKA, underscoring that the partnership has been instrumental in enhancing both training and healthcare services at the university. “This is not the end of our collaboration. We have a long-standing relationship with TIKA, and we look forward to continuing the excellent work that has been done over the years,” he added.
Speaking during the meeting, Coordinator of TİKA Dar es Salaam, Ms. Filiz Sahinci highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing and staff development in the partnership. “Our support goes beyond providing equipment; we are committed to capacity building through staff training programs, knowledge exchange, and joint research initiatives. MUHAS has always demonstrated commitment to excellence, and we are proud to contribute to the growth of healthcare professionals in Tanzania,” she said.
The farewell meeting was held at MUHAS on 28th August, 2025 and was also attended by MUHAS Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, Prof. Emmanuel Balandya, the Principal College of Medicine, Prof. Enica Richard, Dean, School of Dentistry, Dr. Ferdinand Machibya, Head, Internationalization and Convocation Unit, Dr. Maryam Amour as well as Head, Department of Orthodontics.
