The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Seif Shekalaghe, officially opened the 15th MUHAS University-Wide Research Dissemination Symposium on October 15, 2025, at the Muhimbili Campus. The event brought together scholars, policymakers, researchers, students, and partners under the theme: “Global Commitments into Local Actions: Advancing Oral Health within Universal Health Coverage in Tanzania.”
In his remarks, Dr. Shekalaghe commended MUHAS for its leadership in advancing health research, innovation, and training in Tanzania. He emphasized that the symposium’s theme aligns closely with the national health agenda, underscoring the importance of transforming global commitments into tangible benefits for every household.

Dr. Shekalaghe reaffirmed the government’s commitment to integrating oral health into Primary Health Care and lauded MUHAS for its role in the National Oral Health Survey and digital health initiatives. He urged continued collaboration across sectors to achieve Universal Health Coverage, officially declaring the symposium open.
Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Emmanuel Balandya emphasized the need to turn global strategies into local impact. He highlighted major achievements of the School of Dentistry including the installation of advanced diagnostic equipment, expansion of clinical spaces, and integration of digital technologies.
The Guest of Honor further commended MUHAS for being granted approval by the East African Community Council of Ministers to establish the East Africa Regional Centre of Excellence in Oral Health Sciences, describing it as a milestone that positions MUHAS and Tanzania as regional leaders in oral health training, research, and specialized services, with the Ministry of Health fully committed to supporting its successful implementation.
