The Vice Chancellor of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), Prof. Andrea Pembe inaugurated Research Development Centre and Postgraduates Study Areas under the directorates of Research and Publications, and Postgraduate Studies on the 26th August, 2019.
This event was attended by Deans, Directors, Principal Investigators, and representatives of PhD and MSc by research students. Before the inauguration, the Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for Academic, Research and Consultancy Service, Prof. Appolinary Kamuhabwa commended the efforts to have this facility that can be used to support postgraduate students, faculty, and visiting professors and scientists from collaborating institutions. He stressed that these are shared facilities for the MUHAS community and therefore should be used with care to enhance quality of research and learning.
In his address, the Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for Planning, Finance, and Administration, congratulated the two Directors for demonstrating that, despite the limited resources at MUHAS, we can still be creative and innovative to achieve greater results. He encouraged other project’s leaders, schools and department at MUHAS to emulate this for the greater good of the University.
Speaking before inaugurating the facilities, the MUHAS Vice Chancellor, Prof. Andrea Pembe said that most of the times people have targets but failed to implement those targets to reached the desired outcomes. He therefore commended the directorates of Research and Publications, Postgraduates Studies and Estate for implementation of this target and make it a success. Prof. Pembe urged MUHAS faculty members to use these facilities to increase their research output and quality thereof. “By doing so we will achieve a major goal of the University in which research is one of our core functions”, he added.
According to the Director of Research and Publications, Dr. Bruno Sunguya, these facilities provide a quiet environment for faculty and collaboratorsfor their research work and collaborative activities. He added that, faculty, researchers, and scientists will have quiet environment to think and do their work and therefore add value to MUHAS research, Dr. Bruno further said, this was made possible because of the commitment of MUHAS management and also by the support of the Government of Sweden through Sweden International Development Agency (Sida), in its Sida-MUHAS collaborative program.
The Director of Postgraduate
Studies, Dr. Emmanuel Balandya thanked the management for the cooperation
received for implementation of this idea. He said that although for
postgraduate students the demand for this is very high but, they will start
with basically research based students which are, PhD, Post Doc and Master of
Sciences by research students. Dr. Balandya said there is also a room for
counselling services and this can be access by all postgraduate students.
