The school is increasingly receiving medical students from many International Universities. Most students come from:

Postgraduate Students Exchange

Post graduate students exchange programmes exist between the school under the Department of Ophthalmology (Eye Department) and:

  • Kilimanjaro, Christian Medical College (KCM), Tanzania
  • Nairobi University, Kenya and
  • Makerere University, Uganda.

These are one month rotations for senior residents that have been in place since 2009 and are supported by the College of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (COECSA). The MUHAS Eye Department is a founder member.

Staff Exchanges with

a)      UK: St Thomas Hospital in the focusing training on pediatric ophthalmology, medical retina and research

b)      Germany: Muster University in focusing on oculopastics

c)      Japan: Japanese Medical Team: These are a group of ophthalmologist working in different private and university hospitals in Japan. They formed their charity group to help different developing countries. The donations come from their own private hospital. So there is no one single affiliation.

Occur for MUHAS postgraduate students during the staff exchange visits 

Technical advisory activities

a)      The eye department at MUHAS is a recipient of technical advice from the UK through the link with Saint Thomas Hospital and machines acquired through this link are serviced during exchange visits

Medical education:

a)      The Eye Department at MUHAS is involved in Continuing Medical Education activities that are regularly conducted and coordinated by the COECSA Tanzania Chapter

b)      The Department surgery at MUHAS is involved in Continuing Medical Education activities that are regularly conducted and coordinated by the COSECSA Tanzania.

  • Miracle Corners of the World (MCW): have donated all basic equipment for clinical and laboratory work.
  • The International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Sponsored Scientifc journals to the School)
  • World Health Organization (WHO): the School is a WHO Collaborative Centre for nearly 20 years
  • Collaboration with the Kigali Institute of Health (Our School has external examiners visiting the School annually)
  • The University of Nairobi (Exchange of external examiners for both Universities)
  • Collaboration with the University of Illinois in the US. Exchange of students programme.

SCHOOL OF NURSING

Links at National level

  • The Muhimbili National Hospital, including all Municipals Hospitals and Health centres in Dar es Salaam for students’ clinical practices
  • The Mirembe Mental Health Institution in Dododma for students’ clinical practice in psychiatric nursing.
  • The School of Nursing has recently formed partnerships with other Schools of Nursing in the eight Universities in health sciences (public and private) in the country through the formation of the Dean’s forum. The forum intends to collaborate in the various functions to promote Nursing education and professionalism through this body.
  • KCMC and IMTU: external examiners from the School of Nursing.
  • The Ministry of health and Social Welfare: Tanzania Nurses and Midwives Council on nurses’ issues.
